Course Introductions – The Prairie Club

I’m just going to start with this from The Prairie Club

Long before the bulldozer there was golf. It was played over the most interesting parts of the terrain, the land creating the golf and not the other way around. Here in the Sandhills, eons have passed since the formation of this place.

… If that doesn’t get you excited, take a look (with that quote in mind) at this…

… If you still don’t have your motor running, maybe golf’s just not your bag. I watched a video about the club and the commentator (who travels from Scotland to play the bagpipes at the course every year… no big deal) said something to the effect of “every time I walk on the course I expect to smell the sea” because it reminds him so much of a true links course. Being on the Nebraska plains, the requisite winds are typically in full effect; in fact, even the majority of the bunkers are naturally created “blowouts” rather than man-made sand traps.

The Prairie Club also has an interesting private/public mix. Since all of their courses are ranked nationally, in order for their members and the public to all enjoy everything the club has to offer, the two courses (Dunes and Pines) alternate everyday as the “public” and “member” course for the day. As of this “printing,” I don’t know which course I’ll play because they haven’t set the schedule for the year (just between you and me, I’m hoping for the Dunes… but will be plenty pleased to play either track).

Day 43 will be Nebraska… or, you know, Scotland!

Check out all of the introduced courses on our map, or, see all the course introductions in one place.

Also, for a chance to win free swag from one (or more) of these great courses I’m playing, be sure to check out this promotion… Share this (or any other) course introduction and tag Fairways & Freeways (FB: @fairwaysandfreeways T: @fnf2017 ) to be entered. The more of these course introductions you share, the more entries you will have in the drawing. 🙂
