Course Introduction – The Atchafalaya at Idlewild

I’ll be honest, there is a (relatively large) part of me that just wants to post this picture, “drop the mic,” and call it good on introducing a Louisiana golf course…

What could be more “bayou” than that? Seriously, if that fairway was water that could be a screen grab from every Louisiana movie I’ve ever seen (slight exaggeration, perhaps). But this 150 yard marker at Atchafalaya at Idlewild is just the start… there’s much more to this course…

I love that each of the holes are named after “a cultural feature within the Basin,” with hole names like “Bayou Mistigris” and “Coon Trap” along with those representing geographical locations and landmarks. Completely “surrounded only by nature” this wetlands course includes water on every hole, hearty bunkering, rolling fairways and plenty of challenge for any golfer.

I hit the Bayou on day 12, and I really don’t think I could get more “Louisiana” than this!

Check out all of the introduced courses on our map, or, see all the course introductions in one place.

Also, for a chance to win free swag from one (or more) of these great courses I’m playing, be sure to check out this promotion… Share this (or any other) course introduction and tag Fairways & Freeways (FB: @fairwaysandfreeways T: @fnf2017 ) to be entered. The more of these course introductions you share, the more entries you will have in the drawing. 🙂

I love this course! I only get to play it when I visit my in-laws, but it’s a must whenever I’m in town. Living in the Midwest, golf on Christmas Eve is a true pleasure!
