A few bests – golf stuff

I’m really avoiding saying what course(s) is (are) best as much as possible, however there are a few things that I can say are the best so far (because they have to do with me, not the courses), so I will.

Best shots (top 3, I’ll update if this changes):

  • Knockdown 2 iron off the tee into a ~35MPH wind to about 148 at Black Diamond Ranch in Florida
  • 188 yard 7 Iron approach through a gap of about 10 feet between 40 foot trees onto the green at Potomac Shores in Virginia
  • 194 yard 5 iron (note the deft usage of the neighboring fairway!) to about 6 feet (pin high) at Buffalo Dunes in Kansas

Best Holes (top 3, I’ll update if this changes):

  • 350 yard par 4 at Atchafalaya: 248 yard hybrid 3w to center of fairway, 100 yard gap wedge to center of green, to about 8 feet, holed out the put for birdie
  • 390 yard par 4 at GreatHorse: 204 yard 5 iron off the tee (laying up just short of bunker complex on fairway), 178 yard 6 iron into back center of green, ~50 foot putt for birdie
  • 555 yard par 5 at Aspen Lakes: 234 yard hybrid 3w to center of fairway, 167 yard 7 iron (layup in front of a creek) again center of the fairway, 155 yard 8 iron just off the green to the right, chip on to about 8 inches for a tap in par.

Best Rounds (top 3, I’ll update if this changes):

  • 16 May, Fox Hopyard, easily my best round. The game was effortless almost all day, minus a blow up triple on 13 I would have been in the 70’s (didn’t have a single double on the round). Played almost the whole course with a 5 iron off the tee’s and never felt overwhelmed by distance at all (this on a very respectable 72.6 course).
  • 17 May, Triggs Memorial (no link available because they were not in GolfPad). Again, easily my second best round. For the second day in a row moved the ball around as I wanted to, everything was largely effortless. Posted an 82, that was a little more than one stroke worse then the previous days round, but still a great day on the course.
  • 4 May, Farmlinks at Pursell Farms. The 87 I posted was far from one of my best scores on teh trip; however, Farmlinks played to every bit of it’s 73.0 rating. The course challenged every club in my bag (the only course to really require me to hit every shot I have and some that I don’t) which is why I rate this round a bit above some that have better (or similar) scores.
