Kickstarter – more of a lesson than a funding source

Failure cleanses the palette for success

(don’t bother looking it up for a citation… I’m brazenly quoting myself 🙂 )

With just over a day to go on Kickstarter, it’s becoming clear that we probably will not hit our funding goal on this attempt. So, first of all we’d like to thank those that did participate; more than any money we would have raised, what we really appreciate is the support (and there has been no shortage of that throughout this entire trip).

While we (most likely) won’t hit our goal, we did learn a lot about the process of fundraising and about making the most of Kickstarter and other avenues. We may or may not go the kickstarter route again, but we do have greater confidence in what we need to do to.

This is also a good example of why we chose to handle the charity stuff the way we did (highlighting a local charity in each community instead of trying to raise money for a specific one as a part of the trip).

The campaign will go away in a few days (I think… we haven’t learned *that* part yet)… but the best part of it was probably the blooper real… so we’ll leave you with that (this is not a “promotional” piece, so that link is not to Kickstarter, it is just to a youtube of the outtakes only… for your amusement 🙂 ).
