I got off work a little early today so I went to the neighborhood driving range/par 3 course to get a few swings in. I bought a small bucket and 9 holes of golf and headed to the range. And then… this happened…
Ironically, if I hadn’t paid for the round ahead of time, I probably would have gone home after the bucket (in fact I probably wouldn’t have finished it)… I was terrible. However, on the last three or four balls I slowed my swing way down and suddenly started making decent contact. Between that and having already paid for the round, I went ahead and played.
As you may have noticed, Pierce Park is not the longest or most rigorous course on the west coast. In fact, my original post on Twitter was this…
But it still felt great. In fact, I stood there looking at the hole for an extended period of time, then sat down on the bench behind the tee and just stared at the vacant green for a bit. I guess at some level I just didn’t want to rush down to the green, pull the ball from the hole, and have the experience be over. Odds are this won’t ever happen to me again so I took a few minutes and really enjoyed it.
Short porch or not, it made for a great afternoon!
In the interest of full disclosure, this is my second ace. I made one in High school; however, much as I struggle to take full credit for this one based on the short hole, I don’t brag too much about that one as it was a truly terrible shot. The ball never went higher than my knees and rolled across a full third of the fairway before making it’s way onto the green and finding the hole.
