Charity Introduction – Women Helping Other Women

Women Helping Other Women (WHOW) is a Tulsa based organization with a dual focus I find particularly attractive. While a self-mentoring, educating, and networking group for women to help them “reach their full potential through education, career advancement, and business opportunities” the group simultaneously “supports local organizations which include women’s shelters, women in poverty, mentor-ship of young women, and girls” through their volunteer work.

The group hosts a variety of events, such as monthly “Boss Encounters” (BOSS: Building Of Successful Strategies) for attendees “interested in furthering their education, advancing their career, starting their own business, networking, and building professionals connections.” They also host vendor fairs and other events to support niche shop local support for one another and raise funds for the organization. WHOW is a faith based organization, so there is a strong spiritual component on much of their work as well.

Again, though, what really moved the needle for me with this group was the focus on volunteering to help those outside their organizations core group (albeit, potential future members) as well. Leave it to a group of women to find a way to help others while in the process of bootstrapping themselves.
