Bois De Sioux presented an interesting choice for me. One the one hand, I was captivated by playing a course with 9 holes in one state and 9 in another; on the other, I was concerned that I already had a course in one of the states. Ultimately, I couldn’t resist the idea of spending half of my round in North Dakota and the other half in Minnesota.
The course spans the Red River with, as mentioned, 9 holes on either side. To quote them “It’s where the grass is always greener on both sides of the river!” With plenty of water hazards on the course in addition to the (North bound!) river running through it, there should be plenty on both sides of the state line to keep me honest!
The course was first conceived of in 1922 and the 9 holes on each side were completed by 1952; however, the “friendship bridge” – spanning he Red River – was not constructed until 1984. One of my first orders of business when I get to the course will be to figure out how people played 18 prior to that… perhaps they were the original bi-athlete’s???
I’m looking forward to playing this unique course on day 41… my own private version of the “Red River Shootout!”
