In an interesting twist of fate, our charity for Texas and our lodging here in Amarillo have a bit of a connection. Not direct, but still, there is something. When talking to our host last night about how she got started with Airbnb, she shared that the first people to stay with her were some folks from another state who had just come to Texas to adopt a child.
This brings me to our newest charity introduction, Little Miracles. Started in 1999 by an adoptive parent who, through her own experiences, realized the value and wonder of adopting internationally; Little Miracles is now a thriving agency helping place children from other countries with caring families, thereby helping those children reach a potential that may never have materialized in their countries of origin.
In the category of “things I didn’t know before today” in order to adopt an international child and immigrate them to the US, you need to go through a Hague Accredited Agency. Little Miracles qualifies as such; also working within the guidelines of the Inter-country Adoption Act of 2000, and the Universal Accrediation Act of 2012.
Like other charities we have looked at, in addition to taking direct donations, Little Miracles has an affiliate program through Amazon. They actually have a “bookstore” listing several books on adoption, if you purchase any, they get a kickback from Amazon for the purchase.
You can fine more details about their program and ways you can contribute if you want on their web site.
