Our charity for Mississippi is loaded with personal connections. Catch-A-Dream was founded in part by Mississippi State University (the extension service), which coincidentally houses the Fairways & Freeways golf course for the state of Mississippi.
Catch-A-Dream is a lot like Make-A-Wish; however, their focus is fulfilling wishes that involve outdoor activities. Most often hunting and fishing. In fact in just four days they are holding a charity bass tournament on Ross Barnett Reservoir; the same body of water the Bassmaster elite series just completed their own event on. This is significant to me because my brother-in-law fishes on that tour and just made the cut to fish the weekend.
This charity began when a man, facing his mortality in a bout with cancer, “recharged his batteries” by doing outdoor activities. In his final days he shared his vision for a charity that provided this kind of activities for its beneficiaries. From that spark of an idea, came Catch-A-Dream; which now operates out of a 43 acre property outside of Starkville.
Having served 588 children from 45 states at an average cost of $4500/trip Catch-A-Dream is making the dreams of young people facing the toughest challenge imaginable come true. Check them out at their web site, or, if you are in the Jackson Mississippi area, check out the Catch-A-Dream foundation Bass Classic!
