My real introduction to golf came from Harvey Penick. While reading one of his books there was an anecdote about Jimmy Demaret’s swing that formed both the foundation of my swing and my anointment of Demaret (sight unseen at that point) as my favorite player. Quotes like this from Demaret didn’t hurt the cause “I believe you have a slight swing in your flaw.”
I mention this because when I was looking at courses in Arkansas I found this in a course description “… brought on Jimmy Demaret, a PGA Professional and three time Masters Winner, and Byron Nelson as consultants to ensure a superior championship course” and I knew Pleasant Valley Country Club was the course for me.
On the topic of things that didn’t hurt the cause…
Featuring 8 ponds, with oak and pine lined fairways and rock (I’m a sucker for on-course rock outcroppings) and creek features like this…
and this…
Pleasant Valley really seems to hit all the high points. Regularly featured on best of Arkansas lists, the course is not wanting for accolades either. Day 11 is Arkansas.
