Sometimes a course appeals to your primal nature and desire to rise to a challenge. When I read this from Black Diamond…
Nestled in the rolling hills of Holmes County, Black Diamond Golf Course will challenge your physical and mental game. Meticulous accuracy with every shot is required to even think about playing “bogey golf.” Cascading fairways and tiered greens will have you rethinking each and every stroke.
My instant response was “challenge accepted!” This was before I had even looked at the course pictures. Now, my more tempered response is “challenge happily accepted!”
In perusing the photos of all of the holes, it is clear they are not exaggerating about the rolling hills or the accuracy. With plenty of water (always a favorite for me) in play, as well as unique course features like this barn accompanying the 11th green Black Diamond promises a round with never a dull moment.
When I looked up the course on Golf Advisor, I found this quote (just in case my need for a challenge had abated to some degree)
The best way to describe this course is to quote a local who plays there every week: “If you are mad at someone bring them here to play”.
Even my wife’s favorite hole features water almost all the way down the left side of a very narrow fairway…
I’m really looking forward to the challenge of Black Diamond. Ohio is day 34.
