Course Introduction – Hamilton Farm

It’s not very often you start a golf course introduction with a picture like this…

But Hamilton Farm in New Jersey isn’t your everyday golf course. Take this excerpt from their history page for example…

During World War II, Brady’s widow directed the conversion of the stables and carriage house into an emergency hospital and rest center for Merchant Marine seamen, the first such facility constructed in the United States during wartime. The stables were eventually returned to their original purpose and now serve as headquarters for the United States Equestrian Team, which uses Hamilton Farm as its training ground for the Olympic Games.

Hamilton was also the first course I saw where I actually had to think before deciding not to play a par 3 course. They have both a championship course and an extraordinary par 3 as well (the par 3 “The Hickory” is the only USGA rated par 3 in the United States).

Ultimately though, the championship Highlands course was the choice for me. With plenty of up and down hill holes, water, forced carries and tree lined fairways, this course just spoke to everything I love about golf. When you add in the history of this course I can’t imagine my trip to New Jersey as being anything less than spectacular.
